Guru Purnima 2023
July 2, 2023
Thousands of years ago the tradition of Guru Purnima began.
The Guru is the one who dispels the darkness, or the one who brings to light that which is hidden from awareness. Guru is frequently translated simply as “teacher.” Purnima means “full.” It is during the time of the full moon that we celebrate and honor the Guru, the Spiritual Preceptor.
“‘Guru is a person’ is in our eyes. Actually, the Guru is his or her teachings. Remove that physical form, it will not remain forever. If we think that the Guru is a person, then the Guru will die and the game is over. If the Guru is the teaching, then that Guru will remain until you are liberated.” – Baba Hari Dass
This year Guru Purnima, the full moon of the Guru, falls on Sunday July 2nd. We will celebrate and honor Babaji and all teachers with Chanting of the Hanuman Chalisa followed by a traditional Vedic yajna (fire ceremony).
We look forward to celebrating the teacher and teachings with you!
Fees:
Participation in the Guru Purnima celebration, bhoj, and Hanuman Olympics is free of charge. Donations to cover the costs of food and event expenses are gratefully accepted.
If you plan to stay for dinner, we request payment and separate reservations 72 hours in advance.
Please note that Guru Purnima will take place during Mount Madonna’s 45th Annual Liberation Yoga Retreat on June 29th - July 3rd. You are invited to join us for the whole retreat by registering in advance. Please note that signing up for Guru Purnima does NOT register you for the retreat.
