Calling In Rest: Embody, Imagine, Emerge

Our fifth annual Re-Union Retreat brings together family and friends, students and alumni, and past retreat and program guests to celebrate the rich teachings and beautiful example of the yogic life that Babaji lived, and the robust, supportive spiritual community that lives on.

At this year’s Re-Union gathering, we are calling in rest as a practice and seeing what emerges from the spaciousness that connecting your body and mind provides. Together, we will explore various “categories” of rest, including physical, mental, sensory, creative, emotional, social and spiritual. We will embody rest through self awareness, asking: what kind of rest do I want or need right now? We will give our imagination time and space to play, and we will be present for what emerges. And, of course, there will be plenty of opportunities to connect with old and new friends, supporting both our collective and individual journeys calling in rest.

Program offerings will include:

  • sadhana (meditation)
  • restorative asana (postures)
  • community circles
  • lounging
  • artistic expression
  • time in nature
  • dance
  • ritual
  • time for connecting with old and new friends… and more!

Navaratri

This year’s Re-Union Retreat coincides with the nine nights of Navaratri and will be honored through additional events and rituals to be announced closer to the retreat.

What is Navaratri? Navaratri is a Hindu ritual lasting for nine days and nights, during which different forms of the Divine Feminine are honored. Navaratri at Mount Madonna celebrates the Ramayana, and this ancient Indian epic is honored and brought to life by performance of daily puja (offerings) to Ram and the reading of Ram’s story. The Ramayana tells the story of one of the incarnations of the Hindu God Vishnu, who took the form of a human (Lord Ram) to rid the earth of the terrible plague of darkness being spread by a great demon king named Ravana. It can be interpreted as both the tale of a god incarnated as a human to help alleviate suffering, as well as our own inner journey of awakening and confrontation with darkness representing our own ego. It culminates with Vijaya Dasami which means "victory on the tenth day."

Babaji and puppy style=

Q: Sometimes I am in the position where if I would choose to do all of my worldly duties, I wouldn’t have time for sadhana or even sleep. How does one make the choice between doing duty and doing sadhana?

Babaji: Sadhana is also a duty. It’s a duty for your own liberation. Duties in the world are important, but you can’t put all your time in the world.

Q: Is there a universal duty of all human beings?

Babaji: Yes. To attain peace, to create peace, to dwell in peace.
