Yoga Theory and Philosophy Classes

Babaji began teaching his students the Yoga Sūtras of Patanjali in the early 1970's, before the center was founded. The class has continued in an unbroken tradition, open and free to all since that time. Babaji also started teaching the Bhagavad Gītā at weekly satsangs (or community gatherings), which were held at local schools prior to MMC. Babaji wrote commentaries on all 4 Books of Patañjali Yoga Sūtra and all 18 chapters of the Gītā to support his students' understanding of these ancient scriptures.

Class includes chanting of the scripture in Sanskrit, reading English translations, studying Babaji's and others' commentaries, contemplation on their meaning, and discussion and sharing on how these ancient scriptures relate to our actions, thoughts and understandings of life. Classes that for many years were held in person (recordings of past classes can be found online) are now offered online Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:15 - 10:45am.
